SK4-D1 a.k.a. "Skadi" is a Ranged Type Type Frame Girl produced by Durandal-Masamune. She uses a high-powered compound bow in conjuction with advanced sensors and rangefinders to attack with pinpoint accuracy.

Appearance

Strategy

Skadi is defined by two things: her precision at range and her great physical strength. Like archers of old, Skadi is immensely physically strong in order to get every ounce of power from her nanopolymer-string compound bow. This strength is itself the basis of her fighting style, which is to deliver precision death at range; this combined with the advanced and redundant ballistic telemetry systems contained within her head.

A common misconception of the Skadi is that her arrows are self-steering or guided; this is not the case, as that would be illegal for most reputable tournaments. Instead, Skadi is installed with dual radio-rangefinder antennae, with which she can judge the range to target precisely through quick trigonometric equation, processed in a fraction of a second. Additionally, her glasses contain a variety of advanced visual detection modes, such as night vision, FLIR vision, and thermal vision, as well as EM vision, which allows her to track opponents based on the signal their CCU emits while active. Her ability to precisely determine position as well as range makes pulling off even improbably difficult shots exponentially easier. If these advanced systems fail, she has a lower-tech coincidence rangefinder pair built as 'ears' into the sides of her head.

Compounding this overwhelming sensory advantage is an advanced miniature nanopolymer printer quiver, that allows her - using commonly available nanopoly bricks - to manufacture specialized arrowheads on the fly. Skadi's quiver can produce a variety of payloads, from broad blade tips for maximum subdermal layer damage to bodkins for armor, to crowd-pleasers like rocket-assisted extended range tips, or explosive heads. They cannot manufacture the arrow shaft or fletching, however, so many owners will equip their Skadis with an additional 'dumb' quiver for storing extra shafts or even lower-tech arrows for more shots. If that should fail, Skadi is monstrously strong, and can easily bash other Frame Girls into defeat with her fists, or even the body of her bow should improvisation be key.

Personality

Skadis are proud, cocksure Frame Girls, almost universally proud of their marksmanship and forever eager to test it in combat. Thanks to the Durandal-Masamune policy of ten hours of simulation training before being boxed to ship, Skadis come out of the box with a honed battle instinct and higher than average ring knowledge, doing some of the work of tempering their hotheaded nature with experience. That said, they can be provoked into less that ideal positions by especially aggravating Frame Girls, which means even a two thousand dollar Frame still needs a lot of training to be honed into a truly fearsome champion. Skadis project this temperment into affection for their owners, constantly boasting about them and becoming quite offended at any perception of a slight to them. They hold grudges against anyone perceived to be disrespectful, including significant others, household pets, neighbors, and teachers, which can make them a poor choice for an everyday lifestyle Frame Girl.

Trivia

Skadis are the second Frame Girl line produced by premium, performance oriented Durandal-Masamune. D-M made great waves with their Melee/Ranged hybrid Tsubaki, which was an industry first in both being a practical, out of the box type hybrid and capable of placing highly in events. Skadis are no different, save for their primary bias being ranged combat rather than melee. No D-M frames have yet to win a Grand Prix, as the community has yet to embrace the idea of starting with an expensive performance Frame instead of gradually improving the capability of a cheaper Frame over time, but certain Frame battlers with corporate sponsorships and support teams are considering D-M frames as the basis of their new strategies for bagging events. Time will tell if hybrid types will become a part of high level frame battling in the long term, but the portents are good.
